The summer transfer window is a crucial time for Ruben Amorim as he shapes Manchester United into a team that reflects his vision.
While much of the transfer speculation has focused on Uniteds attack, their defence should also be a priority.
Defensive depth concerns at Old Trafford Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are set to leave, raising concerns about depth at the back.
Meanwhile, Luke Shaws future remains uncertain, and even if he stays, his ongoing fitness issues continue to be a worry.
Adding to the uncertainty, Lisandro Martnez has been sidelined with medial collateral ligament damage in his right knee.
He is expected to return at the start of next season, but it may take time for him to regain his best form.
Given these concerns, Amorims push for another top defensive signing makes perfect sense.
Which defender could United target?
Castello Lukeba: A potential solution There have been few concrete links to centre-backs recently, but Teamtalk claims United may look at RB Leipzigs Castello Lukeba.
Lukeba is regarded as one of the finest defenders in Europes top five leagues.
Max Eberl, speaking to the Bundesliga website, described him as a top-class defender, highlighting his tough tackling, pace, positional awareness, and composure on the ball.
A left-sided centre-back who can also play at left back, Lukeba would be well suited for the LCB role in a back three.
If United were to secure his signature, it would be a statement signing that many of their rivals would envy.
Liverpools interest could force Uniteds hand United may still be weighing up their options, but Liverpool could push them into action.
According to Teamtalk, the Reds have requested information on Lukeba, although they have yet to initiate formal negotiations.
Like United, Liverpool do not have an urgent need for defensive reinforcements, especially after Virgil van Dijks contract extension.
However, with the Premier League champions showing interest, Lukebas suitors may soon have to make their true intentions clear.
A transfer battle between European giants With Liverpool’s inquiry into Lukeba (he has a 74.5 million release clause) Real Madrid and Manchester United are the clubs to watch as per Teamtalk.
United must now decide whether to step up their pursuit or risk losing out on a player who could transform their defensive stability.
