Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha is reportedly on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United, with personal terms now agreed.
Heading into the summer transfer window, United’s top priority is to bolster their attacking department, after a 2024/25 season in which consistently scoring goals has been a difficult task.
In addition to pursuing a striker to ease the pressure on the struggling Rasmus Hojlund, Ruben Amorim is also keen on bringing in a player who can seamlessly operate in the number 10 role, with Matheus Cunha emerging as Uniteds top target for that position.
A few weeks ago, Fabrizio Romano revealed that United were advancing their pursuit of Cunha, who has a 62.5m release clause.
Sky Sports subsequently relayed that Cunha would join United after the final round of Premier League fixtures, which occurred this evening.
Another report suggested that Manchester United could announce the Brazilian’s arrival as early as after their clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford. Earlier today, journalist Nicolo Schira reported that United had reached a compromise with Wolves on the payment structure for Cunha’s release clause.
The reliable Ben Jacobs has now issued a huge update, indicating that Cunha and United have agreed a five-year deal.
Jacobs wrote on X, “Exclusive: Matheus Cunha has agreed a five-year contract with Manchester United.”
“Manchester United will now approach Wolves this week. Cunha has a 62.5m clause.”
“Cunha expected to wear No.10 at Manchester United if all goes to plan.”
Jacobs further notes that Cunha’s terms with the Red Devils will start on July 1. It’s unlikely it will be rushed through for the 1-10 June window.
Also understand Cunha’s contract, should all go smoothly with Wolves, will start July 1. It is unlikely it will be rushed through for the 1-10 June window.

This information has been backed by talkSPORT, who emphasise that the No.10 jersey will be reassigned from Marcus Rashford. Under Amorim, Rashford is not seen as part of Uniteds future plans and will be made available for sale if Villa choose not to activate their option to make his loan move permanent.
