Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has insisted that he currently has no regrets about taking charge of the team in the middle of the season.

Amorim has endured an extremely difficult time since succeeding Erik ten Hag in November, with United currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League table, having managed just six victories under the Portuguese coach.

The Europa League is the only thread holding Uniteds season together, and winning it would not only secure a major trophy but also offer a path back into the Champions League.

When United approached Amorim about the head coach role, the 40-year-old expressed a desire to finish the season with Sporting CP and take over in the summer, but he was pushed into making a swift decision after being told the job wouldnt be kept open for him.

Now, ahead of United’s trip to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, Amorim has changed tune and insists he has no regrets about assuming the Old Trafford hot seat.

He told reporters in the embargoed section of his press conference, “No regrets, not in this moment.”

“If you asked me like four months ago with all the problems, maybe you feel that feeling I should be stronger in starting in the beginning of the (next) season. But today I have a feeling that this is something that is going to help us in the future. We are suffering a lot here. There was a lot of frustration, a lot of suffering.”

“But I feel in this moment maybe because its near the end (of the season) this is the most important time maybe in the next few years. We are going to use all the information to prepare better the next few years, so no regrets. I think this is the top of what a coach can achieve, so I have no regrets at all.”

Amorim however insisted he harbours “a lot of regrets in small things” in the immediate aftermath of defeats, as he is desperate to win matches and repay the faith fans have placed in him.

“I think that is special, but I also know that people understand what we are trying to do. But I also know that this moment, without results and sometimes without performances, and still have that support from the fans will finish maybe in the next season.”

“I really appreciate that, but I know that in the future that is going to finish if we dont get results.”

On approving the January exits of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, despite the risk of leaving himself short on options, Amorim stressed that the club was focused on the long-term plan.

“Big teams, when you get in one context its really hard. And then I understand that in January, and you are talking about Rashford and Antony, we lost these players and we didnt bring new ones.”

“It was a risk, but I think that there are things here that are more important than to score 10 more goals this season. We are trying to do something that is more important. We can hurt the squad now, but in the future its going to help the club so I think we are in that path.”

Bournemouth vs. United kicks off at 14:00 BST.
