Manchester United may be in for a major opportunity to sign transfer target Hugo Ekitike this summer following a fresh update on the player’s future.
Given the shortage of strikers in Man United’s squad as well as Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles in front of goal this season, it’s clear that signing a proven goalscorer is a priority for the club once the next transfer window opens.
While both Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen heavily linked with United, these are not the only strikers that the club may consider signing.
Last week, Hugo Ekitike was identified as a potential signing for United manager Ruben Amorim this summer.
Since then, it appears as if United’s chances of securing the transfer of the Eintracht Frankfurt are becoming increasingly higher.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Ekitike’s future ahead of the summer transfer window.
“Hugo Ekitike, expected to leave Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer after the excellent season hes having,” Romano posted on X.
“Premier League clubs already started calling for the French striker ahead of the summer transfer window.”
This could turn out to be excellent news for United, especially given the French forward’s impressive form in both the Bundesliga and UEFA Europa League.
In 25 league outings, Ekitike has scored 13 goals while providing four assists, with his goal conversion rate sitting at a respectable 15%.
The 22 year old has scored three goals while contributing three assists in 10 Europa League matches. Notably, he has won 61% of his aerial duels, proving to be the kind of ball-winner that United could make great use of from corners. (Stats via Sofascore)
Ekitike’s efforts have aided Frankfurt to make it to the Europa League quarter-finals, where they will encounter Tottenham Hotspur.
With Osimhen and Gyokeres being too heavily in-demand figures, having a third option such as Ekitike could be good for United, especially if they hope to avoid a bidding war that will balloon some transfer targets’ price tags.
