Jess Park will wear the no.8 shirt for Manchester United Women after joining the club on deadline day.
The attacking midfielder completed her move from Manchester City shortly before the window shut on Thursday evening, becoming the Reds’ third and final signing of the summer.
Park follows Julia Zigiotti Olme (confirmed as our new no.18) and Fridolina Rolfo (as no.12) in transferring to the club at the start of a big season for Marc Skinner’s Reds, which started with last month’s two Champions League wins in Sweden and continues with Sunday’s Women’s Super League opener at home to Leicester.
Jess inherits United Women’s no.8 shirt from Grace Clinton, who vacated the jersey upon formalising her crosstown transfer in the other direction – to City – on Thursday.
Clinton sported the number as she emerged in the Reds’ first team last season, taking it on from fellow midfielder Irene Guerrero who wore it during her one campaign at the club in 2023/24.
It’s a digit that had previously been donned in the middle of the park for us by Vilde Boe Risa, between 2021 and 2023, and Mollie Green.
Green was our women’s team’s first no.8 after reformation in 2018, displaying the number on her back for the Championship-winning term of 2018/19, and again in 2019/20.
It’s a new squad number at club level for Park, who is yet to wear it in her young career to date. The 23-year-old was no.16 in her last five seasons at City, having emerged in the Blues’ senior side as their no.33.
She had the no.11 shirt during a 2022/23 loan spell at Everton and, internationally, was assigned no.20 for England at this summer’s silverware-winning European Championship.
