A European final demands a new surfer banner

Manchester United hope to lift a sixth European trophy in the club’s rich history on Wednesday night, when facing Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
The magnificent San Mames Stadium in Bilbao has a capacity of 53,289 and around 15,000 of those will be of a Red persuasion, providing unrivalled support for Ruben Amorim’s men.
It’s fair to say our fans are travelling to the Basque Country by planes, trains and automobiles – and not to forget, boats! – all desperate to see United finish a challenging season by lifting silverware.
Attending a European final is something special and many of our supporters have seen us succeed before, whether it was in the 2017 Europa League final, 2008 or 1999 Champions League finals, 1991 Cup Winners’ Cup final or even the 1968 European Cup final.
Those fans will tell you that a special connection between the stands and the pitch is required and, to help that bond, a new surfer banner has been created with an original design.
The project follows positive work with fan groups that led to ‘tifo’ banners being unveiled at Old Trafford for the quarter-final and semi-final second legs against Lyon and Athletic Club.
As he did with those, United club captain Bruno Fernandes has personally approved the design and the rest of the squad will see it for the first time when walking out of the tunnel before the 20:00 BST kick-off in Bilbao.
