Unfortunately, recent developments suggest that things may not be going their way.

Interestingly, instead of competing with United for his signature, Villa and Spurs may need to be more concerned about Napoli and Juventus, who are also eager to secure the 25-year-old striker.
Given Uniteds financial situation, they may need to sell players to fund transfers, making their lack of pursuit of David seem like a missed opportunity.
With their ongoing struggles in front of goal, passing up a free transfer for a forward who has recorded 25 goals and 12 assists in 48 games could prove costly.
The advantage of signing Jonathan David is that his arrival would not necessarily disrupt Uniteds broader transfer plans.
The club could acquire him and still afford to sign another striker, such as Liam Delap.
